Supporting Pulled Apart by Horses on their recent UK mini-tour were fellow Leodiensians Chickenhawk. With a raft of metal/rock/hardcore anthems to hand, they played an utter stormer of a set to a bizarrely sedate crowd at Manchester’s Deaf Institute. Check out more shots from the show below the cut!
Named by many as the most exciting live band in the UK at the moment, Pulled Apart by Horses are very much in their ascendency right now. With their debut album still hot off the presses, and a prestigious support slot for arena behemoths Muse approaching fast, PABH are surely one of the hottest tickets in the country right now. I got the chance to shoot them live at Manchester’s Deaf Institute recently.

Pulled Apart by Horses will punch you in the throat, then high five you for taking it like a man. They also play some pretty gnarly tunes. Here’s a quick preview of their show at Manchester Deaf Institute recently. Check out a second shot, of support band (also fantastically rifftacular) Chickenhawk (who have awesome videos about zombie invasions) below the cut. Kapow!
Given my general mistrust of the entire “acoustic-singer-songwriter” genre, I was more than pleasantly surprised when I caught Charlie Bath live at Crash Records recently. She was performing as part of Test Space, a multidisciplinary art fair, and was a real breath of fresh air, singing engaging, challenging and thought-provoking little epics of songs.

With their new album “Attack of the Wolf King” coming up, US metallers Haste The Day swung by the UK for a brief tour back in April. Labelmates Oh, Sleeper were also scheduled to appear, but Icelandic Volcanoes got in the way of things. Undeterred, Haste The Day came and provided Manchester Moho with a blistering set of harcore-tinged metal. Check out more shots below the cut!
17th April 2010 marked the third anniversary of (International) Record Store day. Since it’s beginnings in 2007/8, this annual event has grown to be one of the biggest events of the year for music enthusiasts and record collectors around the world, with this year’s event seeing more than 150 special releases put out for for rarity-hunters to snap up. I spent much of the day at Leeds’ very own Crash Records, shooting the huge crowd of people amassed outside before opening-time (one patron had even slept rough, determined to get his choice of the special releases!), and the various in-store events and shows put on throughout the day. Headlining the festivities were local heroes The Sunshine Underground.
Lots more fun to be had below the cut!

Underøath will rock your world. Metalcore bands don’t get much bigger than these guys, and Christian bands never get this big in the UK (unless you remember Stryper’s glory days). I’ll keep the writing short and sweet for this post, and let the shots do the talking. Underøath move around a whole bunch, and it was almost more fun to watch them from the crowd than it was to shoot them. That’s how great they are live. Check out more shots below the cut!
Here’s a quick taster of my shots of Underøath at Leeds Met over the weekend. The show was an absolute blast to shoot, and I’m stoked about the rest of my shots from the night. Keep you eyes peeled for a full post soon!
Huddersfield isn’t known for it’s musical output on the whole. Indeed, Evile are something of an anomaly as the only name band I can think of to emerge from West Riding’s dark clutches. Geography aside, however, Evile are also notable for being leaders of the thrash revival that’s swept the world over the last few years. Full of energy and determined to have fun, they brought the spirit of the 80s along with them on their recent visit to Leeds Rios. Plenty of shots to see below the cut!
