Given my general mistrust of the entire “acoustic-singer-songwriter” genre, I was more than pleasantly surprised when I caught Charlie Bath live at Crash Records recently. She was performing as part of Test Space, a multidisciplinary art fair, and was a real breath of fresh air, singing engaging, challenging and thought-provoking little epics of songs.

Notes
Shooting a solo artist in such a small venue doesn’t provide too many technical challenges, but definitely limits the scope for shooting angles and composition. By mixing up my focal lengths a bit, and using liberal amounts of free-lensing, I think I came out with a balanced set overall. I’d love to see what Charlie could do with a full band in a larger venue some time.
